Kia Ora. Haere Mai.
Hello and Welcome.
I am Professor of Experimental Economics in the Department of Economics, University of Auckland Business School at the University of Auckland and served as the Chair of the Department of Economics from 2013 till 2019.
New Book: My new book “Economics: A Global Introduction” was published by Routledge in January 2025. This book is meant as a one semester introduction to Economics. But as opposed to other offerings in the market, I actively engage in a contemporary debates around fast fashion, climate change, regulation of Big Tech, trade and its discontent, cryptocurrencies and central bank digital currencies. I also adopt a non-traditional approach to the topics and have woven in extensive behavioural/experimental insights.
I have a new book out in 2022: “Nudged into lockdown? Behavioural Economics, Uncertainty and Covid-19” from Edward Elgar Publishing. You can read the first chapter of the book here. Here is my op-ed piece about the book on the Edward Elgar Blog. I recently talked to Paul Brennan about the book on Reality Check Radio and to Leighton Smith on the Leighton Smith Podcast on Newstalk ZB. The book is available in paperback from all major booksellers such as Amazon, Fishpond, Booktopia or Mighty Ape and as an ebook on Google Play and ebooks.com. The book is available as an ebook at the University of Auckland library. Multiple copies of the book are available at Auckland City Library.
In 2021, I published Behavioural Economics and Experiments (from Routledge) and an edited volume Research Agenda for Experimental Economics (from Edward Elgar).
I am Senior Editor of Oxford Open Economics, a new open access journal (and the first of its kind in Economics) from Oxford University Press. You can read our editorial (“A new general interest journal to make economics open again“) from the inaugural issue of the journal here.
In 2020, I served as Visiting Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.
I contribute frequently to popular media outlets. These articles are available under “Popular Writing“. Information on other media activities including public lectures are available “Here”. am represented by High Spot Literary in my writing endeavours.
You can follow me on Linkedin and also on Twitter @ProfAnanish. You can also learn about some of my research on the Social Science Encyclopedia. The Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) database ranks me among the top 5% of economists worldwide based on a number of different metrics such as breadth of citation across fields and the Euclidian citation score.
